Top Tips to bagging yourself a designer bargain:

1. The best advice is to head towards the fashion capitals, the best merchandise will probably hit the rails around the time of the fashion shows in February/March and September/October.

2. Many outlets also sell seconds, so inspect everything you buy for faults.

3. Check return policies - many of these outlets will only offer credit notes, not refunds.

4. Sign up for outlet malls newsletters before you go. Many will flag up incoming merchandise, offers and money-off vouchers.

5. Some outlets don't have changing rooms, so wear something close-fitting to strip down to if you want to try clothes on

6. Stock changes: don't write off an outlet store just because you find nothing when you go. Return the next week and it might be a different story.
